2001 Woman of Achievement Award Recipients

PATRICIA GRISAR - Economic Life
Nominated by Barbara Britt
A vacation to the Dominican Republic changed Pat Grisar's life. Stunned and dismayed by the poverty she saw, she felt compelled to take action and founded Rainbow Families, a non-profit humanitarian relief organization. Three weeks later she returned to the Dominican Republic with 3,000 pounds of toys, clothes, school, and medical supplies which she personally distributed to the poor. Pat plans another trip in April 2001. Says Pat, "I am truly blessed to have the opportunity for all this to fall into my lap and provide something useful."

Woman of Achievement Awards

"... encouraging and supporting women in achieving equality in education, economic and community life."

As part of the annual recognition of National women's History Month, the Women's Center sponsors the Women of Achievement awards. Since 1993, 25 women, whose lives personify a spirit of generosity, dedication and caring, have been honored with this award. In keeping with the mission statement of Lakeland's Women's Center, the 2001 award theme is "encouraging and supporting women in achieving equity in education, economic and community life." This year's award honors women who have supported and helped other women achieve equity in any of these areas or who have achieved it for themselves.
