June 2007

Well, I am doing fine. More than anything I have been trying to beat the heat, and keep calm.

The kids are doing fine. I need to place a call to Santo Domingo to learn when the doctors are coming again for open-heart surgeries. I may have told you that Antonia's aunt came to see if I could help an elderly lady who needs a heart valve replacement. I have since learned from my contact that they have started surgeries for adults, however, just once a year. Jacobo's cousin came also asking me to help a 19 year-old boy who has a heart problem. He has not come back again.

A little 2 year-old girl drowned in the river this week. Her mother thought she was in front playing while she cooked lunch. A fisherman found the body snagged on a tree branch.

Elderly friend died of a sudden heart attack on Sunday. She is a Jehovah's Witness and good friend of Anny's grandmother. Understand that Anny was to have her last surgery on the 16th of May. They will be returning back after her recovery and recuperation.

I learned there is a group of eye doctors here doing cataract, glaucoma and slanted eye surgeries in Puerto Plata at the public hospital. I will go there tomorrow to see if I can help. It must be the same group that came last year since it was about the same time as now.

Mary in Minnesota is planning to make reservations to help with the humanitarian work.

The price of Internet time has come down during the month so it is a little more comfortable for me to pop in to check messages.
