February 2007

I had been busy with the folks from Minnesota and then with the medical mission. I have been very busy following up with a few patients that the mission doctors saw. That will be a full report in itself. Another lady is coming from Canada on Friday. I will meet up with her on Saturday. A minister from Arizona may be visiting soon.

The car battery died. The car wouldn't start a couple times and I got Aronis to give me a jump. Third time he came the car just wouldn't turn over so I was stranded and had to borrow/rent a car in order to have transportation to buy a battery. My friends in Minnesota used to own a tire shop, and the father told me I have two bald tires, need an oil change and the brakes are going to the floor. Actually I had three bald tires and when I went to meet them at the airport I had a blow out and the tire was running on threads. So, I had to buy a used tire that was actually in pretty good shape.

Corinna and Andres are doing fine, as well as their family. Corinna's aunt has been in and out of the hospital and isn't expected to live. Her parts are just worn out.

Jacobo and family are doing great. He took them to a nice dinner for Valentine's Day. Margaret told him she wanted to go to a nice restaurant.

Anny and grandmother are still in Boston last I heard.

Remember Jose Antonio? His mother and father got married on 5 Feb. after 13 years together. He had a checkup with the surgeon in Santo Domingo and doc has ordered a ct scan (I think) of his throat. He has developed what I call "chicken breast". Perhaps because he didn't get the proper nutrients while he had the feeding tube. His baby teeth are all rotted and look really bad, again I suspect from not getting proper nutrition. The siblings have cavities but not like Jose Antonio's teeth.

Antonia's second cousin was at the hospital when I was there with one of the patients. She asked me when I would be going to Santo Domingo again. I had to tell her I couldn’t go with my car in the condition it's in. However, a group of pediatric cardiologists are coming in early March and the two-year old who needs a pace maker has an appointment to see them. Dra. Toribio asked me to bring Antonia so the doctors can check her. I'll have to see.

It had been raining very hard for about three weeks. The day the folks arrived from Minnesota it cleared up and didn't rain again until after they left. The past two Sunday's it has rained kitty cats and puppy dogs. The streets were so flooded it was nearly impossible to drive.

I will try to write more detail about the Minnesota friends. They have been incredibly generous, sponsoring many families and helping me a lot. I really appreciate it very much.
